EMDR
Therapy

EMDR Therapy, or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy, is a highly effective, evidence-based type of therapy that is linked to significantly reducing distress related to trauma.

For those who have suffered from developmental trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or a significant traumatic life event, the negative effects of that unprocessed trauma can linger for years, impacting your everyday life. And that impact can have countless ripple effects.

If you feel as though there is a traumatic event that is overtaking your life and you just can’t seem to get through to the other side — despite whatever talk therapy you might also be engaged in — EMDR Intensives are potently designed to break through the blockage.

They are a way to help eliminate the distress so that you can gain insight and awareness into your life. If you have a history of a single-event trauma, it is a way for your brain to recognize that you don’t have to continue experiencing the symptoms of the trauma and can finally leave the distress in the past.

What do you mean by single-event trauma?

Suppose, for example, you were in a car accident and are now experiencing hesitation, panic attacks, and flashbacks every time you get into a car. In an EMDR Intensive, we will focus solely on healing from that experience. The hope is that you leave our time together able to drive with confidence and without the fear, hesitation or distress associated with the trauma.

The fact of the matter is there is only so much we can do in 50-minute sessions every week. While EMDR therapy during regular sessions is still powerfully healing… it can take months.

With EMDR Intensives, feel true relief in a matter of days.

All EMDR Intensives are done in person over the 3 days of a weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), and I am present with you fully the entire time. EMDR Intensive therapy works well with those who have experienced:

  • Infidelity

  • Birth trauma

  • Miscarriage

  • Loss of a beloved pet

  • Natural disaster

  • Are first responders

  • A challenging medical diagnosis and/or actively receiving invasive treatment

Why I love EMDR Intensives

Reason #1:

It is very solution-focused!

We are dedicating all our attention to the issue at hand. We are identifying the worst moments of the experience and addressing those.

It's different from individual therapy in that we aren't working on making connections with the past and processing issues outside of the single traumatic experience. Although your brain may automatically do so in the process, we are solely focusing on eliminating distress, addressing the negative thoughts, and strengthening the positive thoughts about yourself.

It’s all about integration.

With EMDR and trauma therapy in general, we are looking to integrate mind and self. For some clients who experience trauma, the difficulty is integrating all parts of themselves, and this makes it difficult for clients to fully accept their emotions and how those emotions are coming up for them in their bodies.

Through our work together within an EMDR Intensive, my goal is to help you integrate all parts of yourself and help you accept your emotions and fully process them.

If you are ready to process your trauma, get the distress out of the way, and move forward with your life with a newfound sense of clarity and ease — consider an EMDR Intensive.

The next step is to schedule a 30-minute initial consultation with me. This call is free and is a way for both of us to ask questions and get to know each other. EMDR is used with clinical discretion. I would be glad to engage in a consult to determine if an EMDR Intensive is appropriate for you.
