Looking for Couples Therapy? Right this way!

Many of my clients have difficulty expressing themselves. Most of the time, it’s because they were not allowed to when they were growing up or they found themselves in environments where they felt safer not saying anything (suppressing their feelings, emotions, and needs) in order to keep the peace. The needs of the people in their environment were so overwhelmingly present that their own took a backseat.

Sound familiar?

After a lifetime of abandoning yourself, it takes some time to reestablish a foundational sense of trust first with yourself, and then with others.

This is the cornerstone of the work I do.

If you have ever failed to voice your opinion for fear of feeling rejected when you do, I want you to know that healing from that restrictive, all-encompassing fear of rejection is possible. Not only possible, but it’s my specialty.

Together, we will lovingly embrace that perfectionist part of you that you developed as a survival mechanism. Slowly, gently, safely, we’ll create space for you to utterly fall apart… and yes, we’ll put all the pieces back together, but perhaps this time with more flexibility, trust, and playfulness.

Taking the first step into trauma therapy can be daunting. If you’d like to read more to see if we’re a fit, head over to this blog post.

“The way you heal from trauma is not by returning to the person you used to be but by evolving into the person whom you decide to be now.”

Couples Therapy

Relationships are so very complex. They can be utterly beautiful and nourishing and are also desperately needed for us to feel psychologically safe. Our human need to feel a sense of belonging is hardwired into each of us, and yet, many of us come to our relationships mired in past hurts and unresolved developmental trauma, even if we haven’t quite considered that as a part of our story.

Couples counseling can work wonders to support partners in feeling empowered to speak their truth and to fully understand how to show up and support their partner in receiving love in their own way.

If you find that you are stuck in negative cycles and desire to increase your understanding of each other — having the safe container of couples therapy is a great place to compassionately explore those topics together.

I see our time together as a way for you to “fine-tune” your relationship. I often work with couples who think of this as preventative couples work. Maybe you’ve noticed some ongoing disagreements or unresolved issues that keep surfacing, I encourage you to bring those to session so that we can unpack what’s underneath the surface-level friction and get you back to feeling safe, seen, heard, desired, and loved.

While this is often referred to as couples therapy or marriage counseling, I work with relationship structures of all kinds:

  • Ethical non-monogamy (ENM) therapy

  • LGBTQ+ friendly

  • Kink-aware therapy
